Trust Me, You Can’t Trust Your Memory!
Facebook popped this up as something I’d shared a year ago, and I’m glad it did. It’s a really good article about why we really can’t trust our memories, and the errors we make when we do. We imagine that our brains are like a computer, storing memories and data away to be recalled exactly as they were stored at any time. Oh no…….not even close!
Honestly, this is one reason that I kinda like the idea of having computer chips installed in our brains – maybe that would be one way of actually remembering things as they really happened.
On the flip side, sometimes we’re a lot better off forgetting the way things really were – like the sleepless nights after a baby is born, or the grief from losing a loved one, or abusive situations, etc. Maybe it’s not so bad that our memories are re-shaped over time.
Regardless……..don’t believe everything you remember.
