Home/Living with and Being ADHD/Thank goodness for Big Medicine and Big Pharma – they make my life livable.

Thank goodness for Big Medicine and Big Pharma – they make my life livable.

A little over 3 months ago, I asked my MD to increase my Vyvanse dosage from 50 to 60mg, as I didn’t feel like it was really working well any more. Tried that for 3 months but still didn’t feel like much difference. So 2 weeks ago, I asked that we bump it to 70mg and add an Adderal 15mg immediate release for the evenings as needed, to which she also agreed. We both know that we have to be careful with an increase like this, as just a 5mg increase in my Adderal a number of years ago resulted in significant appetite suppression and a loss of nearly 40lbs in just 4 months! Seriously, it was kind of scary dropping from 175ish to only 138lbs! And while I am still struggling to get rid of a couple inches around my waist, that’s not the way I want to do it.

However, I am feeling pretty good this round! 2 weeks in, and I can feel a significant improvement in my ability to focus and get things done again, even when not under pressure. Appetite is just fine; if anything, I’m hungrier than I was before, so I definitely have to keep eating to avoid migraines (hunger and exhaustion are my 2 main triggers). I got a lot done today, from shopping for stuff we needed around the house, laundry and cleaning the kitchen, working on photos from Arizona, cooking. No Adderal this evening though, as I have to take it no later than about 5 to sleep before 11pm.

It would be great to not need medication to function normally like this, but I am deeply grateful to Big Medicine for figuring ADD out, and to Big Pharma for coming up with a drug that allows me to function like a normal human being.
