Piles of Unfinished eBooks Lying All Over My Kindle!
Here one can see a selection of books that I have purchased on Kindle, some also on Audible.com, and some even as physical books, too, and either not started them, or only partially finished them.
Honestly – The Big Picture by Carroll is IMO much superior to A Universe from Nothing by Krauss, so I have no intention of finishing Krauss’ book.
The Myth of Equality is a good read, as it’s an attempt by a white, middle-aged male Evangelical Christian to explain to other white Evangelicals why and how racism is a huge problem, not just in the Evangelical movement, but in American society. If you’re a white Christian who thinks racism isn’t a big deal any more, here’s a white Christian who might help you understand things a bit differently. I enjoyed about half of it – the part that just explained how racism is essentially built into American law and society so deeply, that many people can’t see it. The rest of it was boring, because while I’m a middle-aged white male, and I do want to understand these issues better, I’m an atheist, and all that Evangelical stuff makes me puke.
Dennett’s book is a VERY hard read, even with a background in biology, but that’s next on my list to finish.
A Manual for Creating Atheists is one that I’ve almost finished on Audible. I’ll write more on that one separately.
Bryson’s book, A Short History of Nearly Everything, was written in 2003, so a lot of it is already outdated. It’s also extremely Euro-centric and ignores most of the rest of the non-Western world. He paints fascinating pictures of the personalities behind many of the worlds greatest breakthroughs in scientific understanding though, as well as the hardships that had to endured hundreds of years ago. I don’t plan to finish it.
The rest – I WILL get to them. One day.
