OK, I confess that part of the reason I shared this is the gorgeous purple artist’s rendition of the gases around the black hole. So sue me. The other reason, of course, is that this is really cool stuff.

For the first time, scientists have measured rapidly varying temperatures in hot gas emanating around a black hole. The winds can heat up and cool down in the span of just a few hours, according to this new NuSTAR telescope data.
