As I often must remind friends and family, just because there is a study that makes a claim about the results, doesn’t necessarily mean that the study is any good or that the results are worth anything.
Science, Morality, and (the Lack of) Proof
When the study first came out and was splashed across social media and the news a few days ago about science supposedly “proving” that religious beliefs make children less altruistic, some red flags went off in my skeptical mind, but I hadn’t had time to dig further. Now, thanks to Colin Fish, here is a pretty good debunking of the study.
The to;dr version is that the study really showed no such thing. If you want to understand why, take a moment to read the article, which explains the many flaws in both the study and the reporting.

If you’ve seen the results from this study floating around, it’s probably because the people who shared it either strongly disagree or strongly agree with its findings. This is an example of confirmation bias, and it turns out the study was deeply flawed. Remain skeptical, folks.
