All About Sugar – Inspired by Gideon Rosenblatt
Last night, I (started off badly but he was kind enough to overlook it) engaged in a wonderful discussion with Gideon on the subject of sugar. Initially, I was going to provide him with a number of links to reassure him about the relatives risks of sugar intake, but then realized that this topic would be helpful for many people. So, I created a new Collection for the Skeptical Writers Society on the subject and have just begun populating it with relevant articles.
Are you worried about sugar? As a dentist at Smiles by Payet Family Dentistry , I certainly counsel my patients to keep their daily sugar intake within reason, and for those people with a lot of cavities, we look for items in their diet that are both high in sugars (all forms) and highly acidic, as the combination is very bad for teeth.
But is sugar “evil?” Is it awful and going to kill you? Is it the root of all illness? Well, NO. No, it’s not. That kind of stuff is utter nonsense. You need some sugar to survive, because glucose is the foundational fuel of the body.
The Skeptical Writers Society is a new Page dedicated to sharing and discussing science-based medicine, dentistry, nutrition, and climate in the interest of promoting these to the public.

Do You Wonder About Sugar? Wonder No More
We have begun a new Collection (still very new) to provide useful and science-based information on the subject of sugar, whether glucose, sucrose, fructose, honey, high-fructose corn syrup, etc. Over time, we’ll continue adding articles and references so you’ll know what’s really going on.
Let’s be honest: sugar is a necessary part of nutrition for human beings. And once the sugar enters your body, it really doesn’t matter a lot in what form it got there. Some are metabolized slightly slower, some a little faster, but ultimately, they feed into just a few critical metabolic pathways that don’t care where the sugar originated.
So come learn about sugar – no hype, just facts.
